For the past five years I have been working as the Technical Director and Adjunct Professor for the Jewett Center and Westminster Theatre Department. In my position I spend much time working with and teaching students. My responsibilities involve supervising student crews, building sets, lighting theatre productions and coordinating all productions for both the Theatre and Music departments.
Prior to working at Westminster College, I worked as a Project Manager for the business side of theatre at Oasis Stage Werks in Salt Lake City. This involves designing, coordinating with contractors, ordering materials, and scheduling crews for the construction of theatre rigging systems. I also worked as a Turn-on Technician for ETC which entails wiring and programming stage lighting systems.
Before returning to Salt Lake and working for Oasis Stage Werks, I spent nine years working as the Production Manager and Lighting Director for the Trisha Brown Dance Company in New York. I also had the great opportunity to design lighting for nearly all of Trisha's new work for that nine years, and during that time, I designed shows in 150 theatres throughout 28 countries.
I hold an MFA in Lighting Design from the University of Massachusetts and a BFA in Production Design from the University of Utah. In addition to my degrees, I have designed on many stages throughout the world and still freelance design here in the Salt Lake area.
My unique experience from working in New York and in touring professionally in many different arenas throughout the world, working at Oasis Stage Werks, and teaching at Westminster College has given me many diverse experiences. I have had to work with different groups from all over the world, which include both union and student crews.
